The evening primrose is a plant native to North America that has adapted well to our climate and grows wild along the roadsides. It is recognisable by its large yellow flowers, which produce a capsule containing numerous seeds. A cold-pressed oil is extracted from these seeds.
Evening primrose oil is rich in vitamin F and is very useful because it is also one of the richest in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that is part of the omega-6 fatty acids (vitamin F).
The role of evening primrose oil is explained by the fact that its fatty acid (GLA) is converted in the body into prostaglandins (PGE1) which have a moisturising and anti-inflammatory action. They lower blood pressure, promote blood flow and reduce the risk of thrombosis, reduce cholesterol synthesis and protect the liver. They also promote immunity by acting on lymphocytes.
The other functions attributed to evening primrose oil can be explained in part by PGE1, but perhaps also by other components of this oil: regulation of the menstrual cycle, reduction of prolactin and therefore of premenstrual syndromes, increase in mucous, ocular and salivary secretions. Essential fatty acids: linoleic acid (70%) and gamma-linolenic acid (9%).
Directions for use: 2 to 3 capsules per day to be taken with a large glass of water, preferably at mealtimes and as part of a balanced diet.
